On 15 December, the City of Canada Bay will open its latest nature adventure play space, at Brett Park Playground, Drummoyne. We popped by for a sneak peek.
The attractive playground, a $650,000 jointly funded project, is situated at the corner of Tranmere Street and Day Street. (Note: the old playground at the northern end of the park is still there).
There is a focus on natural play elements, such as logs, boulders, timber structures, nature trails, water and sand.
At the centre, kids will love the adventure play structure which includes climbing features, a slide and a fireman’s pole. Adjacent to the play structure is a set of monkey bars, a perennial favourite!
There are three swings, including a regular swing, a bird’s nest style swing and an inclusive supported swing, as well as an embankment slide.
On the left side there are also sensory elements, with a water pump and sand pit with digger, which young kids will enjoy.
The playground is partially shaded by established trees and the sandpit area has a shade sail. Several seating options, including a low table, are also available. A drinking fountain is provided too.
The play area is accessed via an accessible ramp and a concrete path encircles the playground.
Within the park, there is plenty of grassy areas for picnics or running around.
