Three of Drummoyne’s borders are made up of water front. Its fourth border is that of neighbouring Russell Lea. A quick look at a map will show you that as a suburb Drummoyne is split by Victoria Road.

Prior to white settlement the Aboriginal name for the Drummoyne peninsula was Warrembah which means where the sweet waters meet. When settlement took place the areas around Drummoyne were called Drummoyne Park an estate that was owned by William Wright, a local merchant. Wright used his inspiration from his home on the River Clyde, Scotland that was also named Drummoyne Park and it is from here that Drummoyne took its name. In the late 1800’s sub-division of Drummoyne commenced and Drummoyne’s popularity due to its magnificent views and easy transport to the city, via a regular ferry service, was evident as many grand residences were built to capitalise on these factors.

It is for these same reasons that Drummoyne remains so popular today with many of Drummoyne’s locals if not enjoying water views from their homes then appreciating the easy access to Parramatta River and transport links either by ferry or a bus from Victoria Road.

Drummoyne has its own large shopping centre at Birkenhead Point where with 2 major supermarket chains and a number of smaller merchants you can pick up everything you need for your weekly shop. It’s also home to a number of outlet shops for many well-known fashion brands. And after all that shopping you need a coffee then you’re in luck as there are several cafes to choose from.
