Face-to-Face Tutoring Back at PLC Sydney Futures Centre

Presbyterian Ladiesโ€™ College, Sydney (PLC Sydney) is opening up more places in its face-to-face tutoring program.

This is open to boys and girls from any primary or secondary school.

This one-on-one tutoring program is run by the PLC Sydney Futures Centre and includes personalised lesson plans as part of its focus on student-centered learning.

Director of PLC Sydney Futures Centre, Rowena Barnett, said the personalisation aspect means individual goals can be realised much sooner.

โ€œThis highly personalised structure means our professional tutoring staff are able to engage in more meaningful one-to-one relationships with the students, as opposed to one-to-many group classes,โ€ Ms Barnett said.

โ€œWe often have parents tell us how impressed theyโ€™ve been with our attention to detail and individual learning style.โ€

A 2020 survey of teachers and school leaders in Australia and New Zealand found 80 per cent believed students would need extra instructional support when returning to school, and the top three concerns were โ€œsocial isolation, a decrease in student wellbeing and learning lossโ€.

While 2022 has allowed for the return of face-to-face tutoring, the Futures Centre will also continue to offer online learning, or blended tutoring, that works around the studentโ€™s schedule and goals.

Subject areas for tutoring
After two years of disrupted learning, the Futures Centre is welcoming all students who want to catch up on knowledge gaps, or who simply want to go over concepts that were tough to learn at home during lockdowns.

The main subjects for tutoring are:
โ€ข Primary
โ€ข English (Advanced and Extension – including IB and ESL)
โ€ข Mathematics (all levels)
โ€ข Economics
โ€ข Science
โ€ข Physics
โ€ข Biology
โ€ข Chemistry
โ€ข Geography
โ€ข History (Ancient and Modern)
โ€ข Legal Studies
โ€ข Business Studies
โ€ข Languages: French, Italian, Latin, Mandarin, Greek and Japanese
โ€ข Preparation for Selective School/OC/Scholarship tests

The Futures Centre also offers general exam preparation focusing on techniques to help students prepare for their yearly assessments.

โ€œWe cater for students who might have some gaps in their knowledge and need more foundational tutoring. And then we also cater for students who are excelling in class, but want to do more,โ€ said Ms Barnett.

The Futures Centre is located in Croydon and offers weekend and after-school tuition to students at all levels who seek academic support whether it be in remediation, consolidation or extension.

Visit the PLC Sydney Futures website for more information, or to book your childโ€™s tutoring.
