Tell us a little about yourself
I’ve been an Oncology Specialist Nurse for a decade, which means I have become very good at giving injections! My partner Kevan and I own and run two SJJA Jiu Jitsu Academies, and I also have a tween-aged boy – which all keeps me very busy!
I am a huge believer that women need to own their look, strength, and direction, and I do all I can to assist them, whether that is through cosmetic injections, offering free self-defense classes, or health advice for women undergoing cancer treatment.
What inspired you to become a cosmetic nurse?
I wanted to use my nursing experience to benefit people in a setting other than hospitals. The skills I had are quite niche, but I knew that they would be perfectly suited to cosmetic medicine, particularly cosmetic injections.
What is cosmetic medicine and what services to you offer at Balmain Village Health?
Cosmetic medicine is a term used to describe medical procedures which can help enhance one’s appearance. At Balmain Village Health, we can do this by relaxing fine lines and wrinkles using anti-wrinkle injections, contouring or re-volumising using Hyaluronic Acid (HA) filler, or a tailored combination of both.
What is your approach to cosmetic medicine?
I’m a believer in the adage that ‘natural is best’! My client’s friends and family don’t believe that they have had cosmetic injections, because we tailor each treatment to carefully reveal their true beauty without the shackles of looking tired or angry.
What advice would you give to someone thinking about a getting cosmetic treatment?
Find someone you can trust, not someone that tells you what they think is “wrong” with your look. I am always guided by what my clients believe they would like to improve, and will work with them to align their goals, to achieve the best outcome.
What has been the most popular treatment so far? Are there any risks or side effects?
Anti-wrinkle injections are the most popular cosmetic treatment in the world, and for good reason! They’re very safe, with limited risk, and big reward! I discuss the potential risks with my clients every time they see me, because they need to look after themselves after the treatment, in order to significantly reduce the risk of unwanted effects.
What is your favourite cosmetic concern to treat and why?
Frown lines are my absolute favourite! With just a few treatments, we can align the way we feel with the way we look, rather than having people ask why we are looking so angry or stressed! It’s the best way to look like you’ve had a holiday, without having to go away (which is especially important now that we can’t holiday like we used to!)
What is your favourite innovation in cosmetic medicine in the last few years?
The variety of HA fillers available now is just incredible. We can tailor a client’s desired outcome with the filler that will best achieve the look, and some of them last up to two years! HA filler is naturally absorbed by the body over time, and is a very low risk treatment to rebalance and rejuvenate the face.
What do you love most about your job?
Definitely the smiling faces of clients, when they have achieved their desired results! For HA filler this is almost instant, and for anti-wrinkle, we see the result at our complimentary two week catch up. I have made many great friends throughout the years as well!
Which skin care products are you using at the moment?
For a long time I only used French skin care, however I was introduced to Skinstitut a few years ago, and it has made a huge difference to my complexion, and firmness of my skin. I love that it’s Australian made, and doesn’t use micro-plastics.
Favourite places in the Inner West?
I love exploring the parks along the harbour, and of course a spot of lunch and shopping along Darling Street!
What has inspired you recently?
The biggest inspiration in my life at the moment is my women’s Brazilian Jiu Jitsu team. They’re all individually so different, yet are the most supportive and inclusive group of women I’m lucky to have met.
