The position is to provide assistance for a person with a brain injury and their Assistance Dog, to gradually support the client to rebuild some animal care skills.
Prepare the dog’s food, give the client small jobs such as assisting in the dogs food preparation, washing bowls.
Walk the service dog with the client, as per dog trainer instructions. Develop dog washing and care skills with the client.
Research music and find appropriate songs for fun dog routines (washing, grooming, walking, playing etc.)
Budget and keep receipts of costs for service dog (food, treats, toys, Vet and medicines, equipment, grooming.)
Maintain and clean the dog’s bedding equipment leads etc.
Encourage and where possible engage the client in small steps for all the above. Engaging the client through routine and fun will assist in capacity building
