The Metropolitan Orchestra has announced the return of its cushion concerts for kids at Balmain Town Hall.
The concerts were put on hold last year due to the Covid-19 situation. They will resume next month with a performance of Peter and the Wolf. Followed by the music from Jack and the Beanstalk in October and its annual Christmas concerts in December.
The concerts are informal, fun and interactive. A narrator or storyteller works alongside the conductor to help bring the music to life, whilst also educating the audience about the individual instruments. The audience sit on cushions and picnic rugs, although there are chairs for those who prefer to be seated.
At the end of the performance the orchestra roams the hall, giving the kids the chance to see and hear the instruments up close.
All up, the performance runs for 50 minutes with no interval. Tickets cost $15 per person. They are aimed at children aged 6 months to 8 years.
Peter and the Wolf, June 26 and 27, 11am and 1pm; Jack and the Beanstalk, October 16 and 17, 11am and 1pm; and The Magic of Xmas, December 4 and 5, 11am and 1pm. For details or to book visit: metorchestra.com.au/category/cushion-concerts/
