Wareemba

Latest Events, Offers & Job Opportunities

Wareemba is a tiny gem of a suburb that is nestled along the shores of Hen and Chicken Bay on the Parramatta River. It is further bordered by Abbotsford, Russell Lea and Five Dock. Originally Wareemba was part of Abbotsford and was not declared a separate suburb until 1993. Its name is an Aboriginal word and means ‘place where sweet water meets salt water.’

The suburb has a small shopping precinct along Great North Road which include a small supermarket, a pharmacy, newsagents, cafes and other dining options. Further shopping and eating options are down the road in neighbouring Abbotsford or Five Dock.

The suburb itself is made up of only a couple of dozen street and housing is typically made up of double brick or timber Federation houses which recently have been popular with renovators who have bought them to modernise for today’s contemporary living. Newer housing and apartments tend to be located along Hampden and Edenholme Roads.

Wareemba is a tightly-held suburb with a low turn over of houses, on average a couple of properties per month are sold in Wareemba.

Coralie Reserve is a small park which has some play equipment and shade provided by the lovely mature trees that surround the park. Hen and Chicken bay can be enjoyed from the public promenade along Wynston Parade, which is where the boat ramp can also be found. Take the kids down at low tide to feed the birds or look sea life in the small rock pools.

While Wareemba doesn’t have any daycare centres these can be found in nearby Five Dock and Abbotsford along with public primary schools. Wareemba has a regular bus service into the city or if travelling by water is more your style then you can catch a ferry from the nearby Abbotsford wharf.
