A new initiative, devoted to mothers-to-be and new mothers, is coming soon to Sydney.
Offering a helping hand to those who are new to navigating their way through the maze of motherhood and parenting, Mother Conference on 16 October 2015 is a one-day event that offers unprecedented access to some of Australia’s leading post-birth and parenting professionals.
From sleeping, settling, feeding, behaviour and development milestones, through to one-on-one consultations with midwifery specialists, lactation consultants and post-natal physiotherapists, the inaugural Mother Conference provides education, support, community and information sharing opportunities to empower mums with the knowledge and confidence they need to enjoy motherhood in the early months.
Event creator Claire Wootton explains how the event came to be “After the birth of my first child 6 years ago, I experienced fear, frustration and a sense of hopelessness. Despite the love that I felt for my baby, I was overwhelmed and confused as being a mother was supposed to come naturally, yet it didn’t feel that way to me.”
“Reflecting on my own experience of becoming a first time mother, and that of my friends, I realised that there wasn’t anything out there to help people on their journey to motherhood. And so about 18 months ago the idea for Mother Conference developed. In a world where there is information overload, Mother Conference is about getting back to basics, creating a village around new mums and empowering them with the confidence to choose what works for them and their baby.”
“There’s no one-size fits all scenario when it comes to raising a newborn. We’re told all the time that we’re not alone, but it wasn’t until I was among other new mothers where I could share my experiences, that I actually started to feel less beleaguered with advice, and more able to enjoy my motherhood journey. I came to realise that people spend so much time researching HOW to give birth, and not nearly enough time preparing for when reality hits and the child arrives – cue the birth of the Mother Conference!” explained Mrs Wootton.
Supported by an impressive line-up of thought-leaders, Robin Barker, bestselling author of Australia’s No. 1 baby book Baby Love, is just one of the keynote speakers at this year’s event.
“I’m delighted to participate in this wonderful initiative: A day for new mothers where they can freely discuss the avalanche of opinions, recommendations and advice they are expected to wade through without fear of being criticised or judged.” Said Ms Barker
Visitors can expect to hear from some of Australia’s leading baby experts including the author of Australia’s best selling baby book Babylove, Robin Barker, and TV personality and Author, Jessica Rowe.
Other speakers confirmed for this year include parenthood pioneer Elly Taylor, neonatologist and paediatrician Dr Howard Chilton, Jo Ryan, author of the Australian must-have guide to sleeping, settling and routine – BabyBliss.
The event will provide a helping hand to those navigating their way through the maze of motherhood and parenting.
