Head On Photo Festival Returns to Sydney This November
Australia’s leading photography event, Head On Photo Festival, is back for its 17th year this November, showcasing 93 free exhibitions featuring the work of more than 700 photographers from over 30 countries.
Held across Sydney, the festival will transform iconic locations including Bondi Beach Promenade, Bondi Pavilion, and Paddington Reservoir Gardens into outdoor galleries celebrating powerful visual storytelling. This year’s program explores a diverse range of themes including identity, migration, conflict, childhood, body image, climate change, and contemporary Australian life.
Visitors can experience compelling international exhibitions from award-winning photographers documenting stories from Gaza, Sudan, migrant communities, and beyond, alongside thought-provoking portraiture and creative visual experiments. Australian photographers will also take centre stage, sharing unique perspectives on regional Australia, Sydney’s nightlife, outback communities, and cultural identity.
The festival officially launches on 6 November at Bondi Pavilion, with the announcement of the prestigious Head On Photo Awards, which will award a share of an $80,000 prize pool across Portrait, Landscape, and Exposure categories.
Beyond the exhibitions, visitors can enjoy talks, panel discussions, photography workshops, the popular Photobook & Zine Market, and the interactive Faces of Bondi community art project.
With free exhibitions and events spread across Sydney and around Australia, Head On Photo Festival offers an inspiring opportunity for photography lovers, families, creatives, and curious explorers to discover stories from around the world through the lens of some of today’s most talented photographers.
