Cooking meals for the family night after night can be difficult at the best of times and when you have a child that is a fussy eater, it’s even more challenging! It’s easy to get stuck into a menu-rut where you are creating meals that cater to the littlest common denominator (your child) and the adults end up eating a limited rotation of bland foods or you end up creating multiple dinners.
Thankfully, there has been an explosion of prepared meal delivery services popping up, many with the goal of helping you eat healthy, fresh, quality food. However, the majority of these services are targeted at adults and even those with a family pack, lean towards more adult-fare. But now, drumroll, there is Go! Kidz! A meal delivery service that is aimed exclusively at children, with an enticing menu of child-friendly food – guaranteed to satisfy even the fussiest of eaters!
Go! Kidz is the brainchild of a parent who is familiar with the dinner-time rush hour, with menus created by an expert children’s nutritionist, whilst each meal is lovingly cooked by a Head Chef who has worked at some of Sydney’s most acclaimed restaurants.
The Inner West Mums have been putting the Go! Kidz menus to the test with our very own fussy eaters. The kids have had a great experience of trying new foods all of which have been, unbeknownst to them, exceedingly healthy. Whilst the parents have benefitted from reduced stress levels! Read on for our full review and for a chance to win a Go! Kidz prize!
Go! Kidz delivers yummy ready-to-eat children’s meals that are not only tasty and very healthy but at very wallet-friendly price points, between $3.95 – $6.95 each. With a fantastic selection of classic dishes to choose from – including favourites like chicken nuggets, cottage pie, lasagne, meatballs and pasta bolognese and apple crumble.
Each Go! Kidz recipe has been created by a Sydney-based children’s dietician and contain 1-3 servings of veggies in every perfectly sized portion. Not only is each meal is snap-freezed to preserve the nutrition and lock-in all the goodness but they are completely free of any nasties. Also, each meal has either a 4 or 5 star health star rating anduse 100% Australian ingredients.
I am no stranger to fussy-eaters and having finally weaned my eldest daughter off of a diet of (solely) beige foods, my son has decided to take fussiness to a whole new level. If Weetabix sits in milk a second too long, or if a chicken nugget so much as touches a green vegetable – we will know about it. Our neighbours will know about it. You’ve probably heard him howl even?
Trying out Go! Kidz has been a really positive experience for us. Not only is Mr Fussy (4) finally trying out new dishes but Miss-formerly-fussy (6) is loving the new found independence of choosing her own dinner each night! She has even described it as like ‘eating at a restaurant – but better’! Both kids also enjoyed being mini-Masterchef judges and when asked, would describe what they did and didn’t like.
For me, I loved knowing that the kids were getting their veggie quota and benefitting from a balanced diet full of high nutritional value, with no nasties. Other bonuses are that we wasted much less food as the kids were determined to finish their meals to get to the yummy desserts and of course, we saved a heap of time with food prep. Plus, we parents got to indulge in some grown-up cuisine and cook what we wanted to.
As for the most popular dishes, my 6 year old literally inhaled the hearty and healthy lasagne, which was cleverly packed with veggies. On the desert side, the crunchy oat and coconut apple crumble was the clear winner. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the kids didn’t get to try the sticky date pudding – it went missing from the freezer (I can, however, confirm that it was excellent!)
