Inner-westies competing at the Tokyo Olympics

From suburbs spanning Concord to Balmain, and in sports ranging from swimming to soccer, weโ€™ve got some impressive locals competing at this yearโ€™s Olympic Games.

Sam Hardy, Balmain
Rower Sam Hardy is competing in the menโ€™s pair event. The 26-year-oldโ€™s career highlight so far has been a bronze medal at the 2019 World Rowing Championships. It is his first Olympics.

Se-Bom Lee, Concord
Swimmer Se-Bom Lee achieved a personal best time in the Australian Olympic trials to secure his spot in the 400m individual medley. It is the 20-year-oldโ€™s first Olympics. A recent career highlight was winning gold in the 200m individual medley at last yearโ€™s NSW State Open championships.

Chloe Logarzo, Annandale
Midfielder Chloe Logarzo is part of the Matildaโ€™s line-up for Tokyo. The 26-year-old soccer player competed in Rio in 2016, and recently moved to the United States to play with club Kansas City.

Setyana Mapasa, Marrickville
Setyana Mapasa has been playing badminton professionally since she was 13 years-old! Now 25, she is making her Olympic debut in the womenโ€™s doubles. She competed in the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, and won the Oceania Championship in 2019 and 2020, as well as many other titles.

Eleanor Patterson, Ashfield
From Little Athletics to the Olympics, Eleanor Patterson will be competing in the high jump in Tokyo. This will be the 25-year-oldโ€™s second Olympics, having competed in Rio in 2016. She also won Gold in the 2014 Commonwealth Games (while in year 12!).

Goran Tomasevic, Mascot
Goran Tomasevic will be competing in his first Olympics in the water polo team. Originally from Croatia, the 31-year-old played in the United States before moving to Australia. In 2018 he helped the Sydney University Lions win gold after a penalty shoot-out with the Fremantle Mariners, and was awarded the Charles Turner Medal for most valuable player of the season.
