New Playground for Five Dock Park

The City of Canada Bay has officially opened its brand new Five Dock Park Playground, a modern recreation space with accessibility and intergenerational play at the forefront of its design.

Residents now have access to free outdoor gym equipment, an extensive childrenโ€™s playground, and a new picnic area with barbecue facilities. All areas of the site are wheelchair accessible and incorporate principles of inclusivity.

The project saw the old playground site relocated to a more central location in Five Dock Park. The new location has better accessibility from the main pathway through the park, is closer to the toilets, offers better surveillance for childrenโ€™s safety, and is in a higher use area with the sports oval adjoining the space and the skate park nearby.

โ€œThe playground provides an opportunity for people for all ages and walks of life to come together,โ€ City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said.

โ€œItโ€™s a place to celebrate, support and promote play and a healthy lifestyle no mater your ability.โ€

The $464,000 project kicked off in late 2019 with extensive community consultation to ensure the space captured the needs of the community.

The playground aligns with the City of Canada Bayโ€™s Lets All Play Strategy, and included a $168,000 grant from the Everyone Can Play Program, an initiative by the NSW Government to create more inclusive playspaces across the state.

โ€œWe are the recreational hotspot of the inner west and we are proud of the opportunities we provide our residents to pursue a healthy and active lifestyle,โ€ Mayor Tsirekas said.

โ€œI encourage you to come down to Five Dock Park and enjoy this wonderful new recreation space.โ€
