September 2019 School Holiday Inspiration

Our September 2019 school holiday guide is packed with fun and educational holiday programs in and around Sydney’s Inner West! Be sure to book in advance to take advantage of early-bird discounts and to avoid disappointment, and don’t forget to use those Active and Creative Kids vouchers! (Many of the businesses listed here are registered Active or Creative Kids providers.) Also please note these programs will close for the public holiday on 7 October.

 

AcroPals

AcroPals’ Acro Camp will run each day from Monday 30 September to Friday 4 October from 9 am–3 pmwith after care available. There’ll be aerials and back tumbling (Monday and Tuesday), acro balance, tumbling and slime (Wednesday), acro balance, tumbling and origami (Thursday) and acro balance, tumbling and circus skills (Friday). Australian Immersive Education Academy

The Australian Immersive Education Academy will be running two workshops during the upcoming school holidays: Harness the Superpower of Artificial Intelligence (3 October) and Coding with Advanced Virtual Reality (8 October). In Harness the Superpower of Artificial Intelligence, kids aged 10-18 years can learn to use Artificial Intelligence with hands-on projects on machine learning and self-driving car. In Coding with Advanced Virtual Reality, kids can become magicians with coding and advanced Virtual Reality technology, learn to create 3D models, animations and sharable Virtual Worlds. Beyond Distinction

Beyond Distinction is an afterschool sports and music academy for primary school-aged children in the Concord/Cabarita areas. When school’s out, it offers a premium range of activities to inject some fun and learning into the holidays. Beyond Distinction’s September/October holiday program runs from 30 September–4 October, with an awesome line-up of activities including a fairytale art workshop, a junior golf clinic, a live theatre excursion and a singing workshop. Bop till you Drop

During the September school holidays Bop till you Drop is running performing arts workshops in five locations: Mosman (1 and 2 October), Waverley (1 and 2 October), Gladesville (2 and 3 October), Lane Cove (8 and 9 October) and Castle Hill (9 and 10 October). These workshops are designed for children aged 5–12 years. The programs are educational with professional teachers who will gently encourage and teach your child new skills in dancing, singing and acting plus craft, cooking and science. There are six action-packed classes per day, which aim to build self-esteem in your child. It is recommended that your child attend both days as on the second day the children will perform in a concert to show off their new talents and they will also be awarded a graduation certificate. Regular hours are 9 am–3 pm. Extended care hours (subject to numbers) are available (8 am–5 pm) on the first day only early-drop off is available on the second day. Cost is $75 per day. BRICKS 4 KIDZ Inner West

During the July school holidays BRICKS 4 KIDZ Inner West will be hosting STEM-based fun LEGO workshops in Abbotsford, Balmain/Birchgrove and two Leichhardt locations from 9 am–4 pm. The Abbotsford workshops will run 8–11 October. The Balmain/Birchgrove workshops will take place from 30 September–4 October. And the Leichhardt workshops will run from 8–11 October. Creative Little Fingers

Creative Little Fingers, based in Drummoyne, is running art workshops for children aged 5–12 years from 30 September–2 October and 8–10 October. Held in a relaxed, fun environment, the workshops will use mixed media to create different projects each day. The children produce an individual piece of art to take home, with all materials provided. The cost is $35 per class. For further information visit the website. Drama Scene

Drama Scene will be holding daily workshops for students in Kindergarten through to Year 7 at Taverners Hill, Petersham from 30 September–4 October. The workshops will run from 9.30 am–3.30 pm with before care from 7.30–9.30am and after care from 3.30–6 pm available. Through play, drama games and exercises, children will experience the fun in building acting skills and confidence in front of the camera and on stage as they perform, film and make plays, costumes, sets, props and new friends. East Village Art House

Located in Balmain East, East Village Art House provides creative and fun art experiences in a relaxed, nurturing environment. The classes aim to introduce artistic skills and techniques and encourage curiosity, whilst promoting individuality. During these school holidays art workshops will run from 30 September–11 October. The workshops will be inspired by a daily theme, such as pixel painting, pop sugar city and paper mache birds or masks. The cost is $60 for a three-hour session, $120 for the full day (9 am–4 pm) with a 10% sibling discount. East Village Art House is a Creative Kids provider. Bookings can be made via the website.

 

Flying Yogis

This Spring, Flying Yogis in Annandale is focusing on creativity and agility. In addition to their signature acrobatics and tumbling, taught by inspiring gymnasts and yogis, there will be a variety of art projects led by amazing artists. A daily kids yoga class is included too. The holiday program will run from 30 September-11 October from 9 am-3 pm with early and late extended care available. GeckoSports

Gladiator Games is now open! Who will conquer these fun fitness sport activities? Open to all challengers, the GeckoSports Gladiator Games program will let kids be the masters of their fate in the arena of sports games. The games will take place on Wednesday 30 September July from 9 am-12 pm at Johnson Park, Dulwich Hill. The three-hour program is suitable for kids aged 5–12 years old who love a bit of adventure and enjoy running, swerving, jumping, kicking, crawling, throwing and catching. There’ll be an obstacle course, ball games, throwing challenges, team relays and plenty more. Participants will need to bring a water bottle, two healthy snacks, hat and apply sunscreen before arrival. Book your child in before 16 September to be eligible for the earlybird price of only $40 (regular price: $55). Siblings receive a 25% discount. Book via the website.

 

Gallery NTK
Gallery NTK, in North Croydon, provides quality art tuition and creative fun with a focus on skills and techniques for all levels and abilities. During the September school holidays Gallery NTK will be holding skills-based art classes with an emphasis on drawing and painting kids of all ages. GymKidz

GymKidz is a toddler, kinder and recreational gymnastics centre in Newtown. The Gymkidz holiday program is perfect for parents looking for a dynamic and exciting activity day for their child. The camps are gymnastics focused but include a variety of stimulating physical and motor-skill development with games, acrobatics and circus, double dutch, rhythmic, dance and team challenges, all in the care of qualified instructors. The holiday program will run during both weeks of the September school holidays from 9 am–3 pm. The program is suitable for boys and girls aged 4–8 years. The cost is $80 + GST per child, per day. The Gymnastics Revolution

Based in Summer Hill, the Gymnastics Revolution (TGR) is a family owned and operated gymnastics facility, offering gymnastics classes, school holiday programs and birthday parties, in a fully equipped venue. The Gymnastics Revolution school holiday program will run 30 September–11 October. Catering for children aged 5–12 years, the program that will entertain your child for hours with gymnastics circuits, ninja courses, ball games, arts and crafts and other fun activities. Inkling Writing Studio

Inkling Writing Studio offers fun creative writing workshops for children aged 7–12 years. During the September school holidays, workshops will be held on 3 and 10 October from 10 am–3 pm in Hunters Hill and on 9 October in Randwick. The workshop themes are Time Travellers, Mystery Mayhem and The Imaginarium. Each workshop is fun and engaging and allows children to explore their imagination and express their ideas freely. Julie Peadon Art

Julie Peadon Art offers fun fine art tuition in a working studio and gallery setting in Drummoyne. During the upcoming September school holidays Julie Peadon Art will be running holiday art workshops for primary and high school students. The workshops will run between 30 September and 11 October, with half-day and full-day options. Themes include pop art, Matisse, Monet and Picasso and Van Gogh inspired works and pet portraits. The classes involve drawing, painting, mixed media, collage, printing, etc. Students will leave with their own masterpiece. The cost is $49.50 for a half-day, $99 for the full day. Kids Got Skillz

These holidays give your kids a digital detox! The UNPLUG ME workshop will be held at Hut 45, Addison Road Community Centre, Marrickville, on 2 and 3 October from 9 am-3.30 pm. It allows children to relax and enjoy art, craft, cooking as well as physical activity, outdoor games and mindfulness practice. At the beginning and end of each day their will be time devoted to yoga and meditation teaching children valuable skills for remaining calm, focused and managing difficult emotions in the daily life. Activities include photography, making Ice cream, planting a family tree, an outdoor picnic and making a dream catcher. The workshop is intended for ages 5-15 years. Kids Up Front

These holidays Kids Up Front will be running performing arts holiday camps at Kegworth Public School, Leichhardt. Kids Up Front works with enthusiastic boys and girls to put on a fabulous musical show. These holidays, it’s ‘The Lion Queen’! In the morning, the children rotate in their age groups around the specialist tutors and complete a 45-minute session each of singing, dancing and drama. Each day after lunch, the children come together and perform for each other and show what they have learned and build their confidence in performing. The program culminates on the last day with a musical show for parents and friends to enjoy! The camps will be held 30 September-4 October and 8-11 October between 8 am and 5.30 pm. Kidz Artworx

Burwood-based Kidz Artworx runs school holiday art workshops for kids aged 5–12 years, including drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, design and sculpture. During the upcoming holidays, classes will be held from 30 September–11 October. Choose from morning (9.30 am–12.30 pm) or afternoon (1.30–4.30 pm) sessions with a range of engaging themes. Make Believe Kids Theatre Club

Make Believe Kids Theatre Club, in Balmain/Rozelle, offers combined singing, dance and drama activities. Make Believe’s key focus is to help develop imagination, creativity and social skills. During the upcoming school holidays, there will be workshops for students in Years K-6 from 30 September-2 October. In addition to song, dance and drama, there will also be craft, games and a performance. Extended hours are available. Total cost for three days is $225 for normal days, $290 for long days. Paper Rock Scissors Art Studio

Paper Rock Scissors Art Studio in Rozelle offers creative classes that include lots of fun and unusual experiences. The studio is running separate half- and full- day programs for K–2 and Years 3–6 between 30 September and 11 October. The K–2 program includes making fairy stone houses, llamas, beaded creations, wacky birds, unicorn cases and more. The Years 3–6 program includes a three-day fashion camp, making bath bombs, lip balm and soap, rainbow dream catchers, stencil spray paint art and lots more. Morning sessions are from 9 am–12 pm; afternoon sessions are from 2–5 pm; full-day programs are 9 am–5 pm, with extended hours available (8.30 am–5.30 pm). PCYC Marrickville

The PCYC Marrickville school holiday programs are a fantastic opportunity for children aged 5–12 years to experience a wide range of fun creative and physical activities and keep busy. Programs will run from 30 September from 9 am–3 pm (with extended hours from 3-6 pm available). There will be multisport, inflatables, arts and crafts and more. The cost is $55 per day. The Pinnacle Studio

The Pinnacle Studio, in Concord West, is a dedicated space for Pilates, yoga and other small group exercise classes which run from Monday to Saturday. During the upcoming school holidays, preschool and primary school kids’ yoga workshops will run. On 3 October, a 90-minute primary school kids’ class will be held at 9 am; and a 45-minute preschool kids’ one will be held at 10.45 am. The yoga instructor will take the kids through basic yoga moves, strengthening, balance, games and more. The preschool class costs $15 and the primary school age class costs $18. READ + CREATE Classes

If you have a creative, book-loving little one in your life, then these are the school holiday classes for them! The classes will explore books around the theme of kindness and then create painted rocks that the mini makers can choose to leave in parks and public places to spread some random kindness and joy. Anybody from preschool through to Year 1 is invited to come and READ + CREATE. The classes are run by a practising primary teacher and are playful and purposeful, messy and meaningful. The one-hour classes will be held at the Drummoyne Community Centre on Monday 30 September. The cost is $22. For bookings and further information see here.

Resilience in Kids

Resilience in Kids aims to strengthen the resilience of everyday children experiencing everyday challenges through workshops, holiday camps and coaching. In the September school holidays, resilience building camps will be held at community centres in Annandale, Lilyfield and Drummoyne. The Lilyfield camp will take place on 30 September. The Drummoyne camps will run on 1 and 8 October and the Annandale ones on 3 and 10 October. The camps build children’s resilience through fun games and activities, including art, craft, breathing, movement, storytelling and games. They provide an avenue to explore a whole range of topics, including confidence, friendship, emotions, the inner voice, the growth mindset, positive psychology and more, all in a safe and supportive environment.The cost is $105 per day. Sports Camps Australia

Sports Camps Australia offers serious fun sports camps for kids between 6-16 years of age in various sports. During the September-October school holidays, camps will take place between 30 September and 11 October in Homebush, Sydney Olympic Park, Kellyville, Hornsby, Parramatta, Lane Cove, Castle Hill and many more locations. Play World Australia

Get ready to play, touch, laugh, sing, dance and have some serious fun at Play World Australia, a two-day event for kids during the October 2019 school holidays at the ICC Sydney, Darling Harbour presented by Nintendo. At Play World on 5 and 6 October from 9 am to 5 pm, kids aged 4 to 12 will enter a creative wonderland, with the latest games from Nintendo, crazy activations, STEM activities, creative workshops, performances from popular kids’ personas and much, much more! This is a high-energy, engaging, interactive experience unlike anything Australian kids have ever seen before.
