Term 2, 2019 Activities Guide

Our guide to Term 2, 2019 is packed with engaging activities for kids in and around Sydney’s Inner West! There is something here for every age and interest from early childhood development programs to dedicated art, music, language, literacy, sports and fitness classes and more. Many of these are registered Active or Creative Kids providers, so don’t forget to make use of those vouchers!
 
Acropals
Located in Marrickville, AcroPals is the place for acrobatics fun for all ages and abilities. The AcroPals syllabus is built around airtrack tumbling, gymnastics skills, sports acrobatics, acroyoga and dance acro tricks and combos. In Term 2, classes will be held on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays, and there is even a class for families to learn acrobatics together. The cost is $18 per class. Free trials are available. Multi-class and sibling discounts are available. There are no registration fee, compulsory uniforms, concert or costume fees. Book online here.

Allegro Children’s Music
Based in Burwood, Allegro Children’s Music offers Do-Re-Mi music classes for children aged 1–5 years and piano lessons for kids aged 5 years and up. The Do-Re-Mi classes, which are Kodaly-based early childhood development music classes for tots, toddlers and preschoolers together with their parents or carers, take place on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. These cost $150 per term (a trial is $20). Private piano lessons for school-aged children are taught from Monday to Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings, from beginners to advanced levels. Aptitude Education
Based in Five Dock, Aptitude Education is a tutoring centre offering programs for all ability levels in Maths and English as well as school readiness programs for preschoolers. Through progressive and focused small group and one-to-one tutoring, Aptitude Education will hone your child’s literacy and numeracy skills in an empathetic, productive learning environment. In Term 2, there will be preschool to Year 8 Maths and English tuition available. The cost is $45 per hour for group sessions or $60 per hour for individual tuition. Artspark Studio
ArtSpark Studio, a sun-filled studio in Rozelle, is running art playgroups for toddlers (18 months–4 years), art and eco garden classes for preschoolers (3–5 year olds) and primary school students, and sewing classes for ages 8 years and up. The playgroup, a casual session featuring sensory and process art activities, takes place on Monday mornings from 10–11.30 am, while the art and sewing classes are held at various times from Monday to Thursday during the morning, early afternoon and after school. The fee depends on the class. ArtSpark also has an eco-friendly garden and mini farm with chickens and guinea pigs – the perfect place for young creative minds to relax. Beyond Distinction
Beyond Distinction is an afterschool academy offering a range of sports, arts and music classes for primary school-aged children in the Concord/Cabarita areas. The diverse program gives children the chance to learn new skills, discover their talents and have fun after school. Activities include professionally coached piano, guitar, tennis, golf, swimming, art and Mandarin Chinese. The program also provides nutritious afternoon tea, dedicated homework time and free school pickup for local Concord/Cabarita areas. (Self drop-offs are welcome too.) Big Steps Little Feet
Big Steps Little Feet provides creative ballet and dance classes for children from 2–12 years in Balmain and Summer Hill. Every class is brimming with magic, beauty, inspiration and encouragement. Along the way, each dancer will develop new skills, technical training and creative expression through expert guidance and individual attention. In Term 2, classes will be held on Mondays at Summer Hill and Tuesday–Thursdays at Balmain. Visit the website for exact class times for each age group and pricing information. Bonjour Babies
Bonjour Babies hosts French lessons for children aged 6 months–8 years. The fun, musical classes are designed to teach your child a second language in their formative years whilst simultaneously enabling caregivers to learn along with them. Older children learn independently from their parents in an engaging learning environment. The cost is $25 per class. Classes are held in Rozelle, Balmain, Paddington, Lane Cove and Manly. Carlile Swimming Five Dock
Carlile Swimming is a world-renowned swim school with more than 60 years’ experience in teaching children to swim well. Teach your child essential swimming and water safety skills with the Learn to Swim specialists in a fun, safe and caring environment. Classes run Monday to Friday from 9 am–7 pm and Saturday and Sunday 9 am–1 pm. The fees are $91 per month. To book, phone customer service on 8753 0333.

 
Core Studios Sydney
Located in Burwood, Core Studios Sydney provides music tuition for all levels and ages. Tuition includes piano, guitar and vocal lessons. Creative Little Fingers
Based in Drummoyne, Creative Little Fingers offers a creative environment allowing children to discover art. It is running art classes for kids aged 5–12 years on Monday–Thursday afternoons from 3.30–5 pm. The cost is $30 per class. Creative Little Fingers is registered for the Creative Kids rebate. East Village Art House

East Village Art House provides creative and fun art experiences – including after-school art classes, holiday workshops and a preschool art play class – in a relaxed, nurturing environment. The classes aim to introduce artistic skills and techniques and encourage curiosity, whilst promoting individuality. The preschool classes run on Wednesday–Friday mornings and cost $200 for the term, or $25 for drop-ins. The Kindergarten–Year 4 classes run from 3.45–5.45 pm Monday–Friday and cost $350 for the term. Located in East Balmain, East Village Art House is situated near Nicholson Street Public School and is a short walking distance from Fr John Therry Catholic Primary, as well as Balmain Public School. Esprit Martial Arts
Esprit Martial Arts, based in Marrickville, offers martial arts classes for girls and boys aged 5–15 years. The classes are small and focus on fitness and self-defence while building confidence and self-esteem. For timetable information, pricing or to book, please visit the website.

 
Gallery NTK Art School
Gallery NTK, in Croydon, provides creative fun and tuition in all areas of art for kids from preschool to Year 12. The classes are given by fully qualified art teachers and run Monday through Friday between 3 and 6 pm and Saturdays between 9 am and 12.30 pm. Choose from a one-hour, 1.5 hour or two-hour class. The classes focus on skills and techniques and are tailored to the individual child’s interests. Gallery NTK offers a beautiful gallery setting to enhance the creative skills of every child. GeckoSports
GeckoSports Inner West runs multisport fitness classes for kids in the Inner West. The GeckoACTIVE program entails fun, action-packed weekly sessions, with sport-specific skills and fitness activities, and is suitable for children aged 5–13 years. It’s a non-competitive environment that caters to all fitness levels. No week is the same – there is a different sports program each week focused on improving gross motor skills and confidence. The sports that are covered include mini Olympics, soccer, basketball, AFL, boxing, netball, athletics, rugby league and cricket. The sports science-designed program runs for 45 minutes and promotes a healthy lifestyle where kids can try their hand at a variety of sports. GeckoSports is an approved Active Kids provider. Gymbaroo
The GymbaROO program is designed to guide and educate parents in providing their children with sensory stimulation and motor development activities within an engaging, supportive environment.
Gymbaroo Glebe and Balmain
This fun, educational early childhood program for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers is held at the Glebe PCYC. Classes run Monday to Fridays. You can enrol via the website.
Gymbaroo Redfern
Gymbaroo Redfern is based at the Redfern PCYC. Classes are held on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Enrol via the website.
Balmain BabyROO
Located at 1b Booth St, Balmain, Balmain BabyROO focuses on the development of little ones from 6 weeks to 18 months. The BabyROO program is like the instruction book you wished you had received with your baby! BabyROO classes take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Book via the Gymbaroo Glebe website.

 
Concord Gymbaroo
Concord Gymbaroo holds early childhood classes with music, dance, parachute time and a specially designed gym. Based at the Concord RSL and Community Centre, classes run on Thursdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays for infants aged 6 weeks right through to children of 5 years. To book, visit the website.
 
Marrickville Gymbaroo
Marrickville Gymbaroo also offers classes for babies from 6 weeks to 5 years. These are held at the PCYC Marrickville on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. See the website for more details and to book.
 
GymKidz
GymKidz is a toddler, kinder and recreational gymnastics centre in Newtown. The Gymkidz program is built around basic movement milestones with its foundations in gymnastics. The classes are age appropriate where children progress at their own rate, tackling new challenges and skills each week over a term. Classes are offered for boys and girls aged 9 months to 12 years from Monday through to Saturday. The cost is from $180 plus GST per term. GymKidz is an Active Kids provider. Inkling Writing Studio
In Term 2, the Inkling Writing Studio will be running creative writing classes at Paper Rock Scissors Art Studio in Rozelle on Monday afternoons from 3.30–5.30 pm (from 6 May) and Saturday mornings 11–1 pm (from 4 May). Suitable for children in Years 3–6, these weekly classes give children time and attention to nurture creativity and become confident writers. Each week, activities will focus on different types of poems and storycraft skills. And if you can’t get your child to the studio on Monday, an additional art teacher will walk the students from Orange Grove Public School to the studio.  Book online or call Alison on 0414 462 476 for further details.

 
Inner West School of Dance
The Inner West School of Dance is a relaxed, no-fuss dance school! It runs jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop and yoga classes, with studios in Haberfield, Leichhardt and Marrickville. Classes are held Monday to Saturday mornings and afternoons. The classes are fun and friendly, with none of the pressures of exams, competitions or large performances. Julie Peadon Art
In Term 2, Julie Peadon Art will be running art classes for students in Years K–6 at Studio 71 in Drummoyne. The classes will focus on pop art and will be held on Mondays, Tuesday, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The cost is $40 per class. Julie Peadon Art is a registered Creative Kids provider. Kidz Artworx
Burwood-based art school Kidz Artworx runs creative art classes for kids aged 4–12 years, with a range of activities including drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, design and sculpture. The art classes are designed for kids to encourage their creative thinking, visual language and provide them with skills in various areas. In Term 2, classes will run after school and on Saturdays. Leap into Literacy
Leap into Literacy is a program that helps children become engaged in reading and writing through fun, creative techniques that aid retention, foster independent learning, and promote students’ future success. It provides small tutoring classes with a focus on reading comprehension and writing. Using techniques that allow students to become creative in the learning process, sessions are fun and achieve maximum results. Classes are available for children in preschool and Years K–6 on Mondays through Thursdays and Saturdays. Choose from two locations: Balmain or Drummoyne. The cost is $36 per hour plus GST. Make Believe Kids Theatre Club
Make Believe Kids Theatre Club, in Balmain/Rozelle, offers combined singing, dance and drama activities. Make Believe’s key focus is to help develop imagination, creativity and social skills. Classes are for kids aged 3–14 years, and no previous experience is necessary. The classes run on Mondays and Saturdays. The cost is $15 per hour. Paper Rock Scissors Art Studio
This term Paper Rock Scissors Art Studio in Rozelle is holding art classes for K–2 and Years 3–6 from Monday to Friday from 3.30–5.30 pm. Students produce beautiful artworks that develop their art techniques or build on existing ones while having plenty of fun. Resilience in Kids
Resilience in Kids strengthens the resilience of everyday children aged 5–12 years experiencing everyday challenges. In Term 2, Resilience in Kids will be running resilience workshops in Dulwich Hill on Thursdays and Marrickville on Mondays and Wednesdays. The workshops build children’s resilience through fun games and activities, including art, drama, music, movement, breathing and storytelling. SeedTree Education (Coding and Maths)
Located in Strathfield, SeedTree teaches coding and secondary Maths. During Term 2, 2019 Coding – Web Development sessions for students in Years 6–10 will be held on Thursdays 4.30 pm–7.30 pm and Saturdays 2 pm–5pm. There will also be Coding – Scratch and Computational Thinking sessions for Years 4–6 on Thursdays 4.30 pm–7.30 pm and Saturdays 2 pm–5pm. Kids will gain coding experience with Scratch and LEGO robots and participate in games to improve computational thinking. In addition, secondary Maths classes will run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, including a personalised learning schedule with +1500 Maths videos. Speech and Language Sydney
Speech and Language Sydney is a mobile speech pathology service with a strong focus on supporting children in their social communication skills. In Term 2 it is running its popular Lego Based Therapy groups on Mondays from 4–5 pm at Studio You in Birchgrove. The LEGO Based Therapy approach is a fun, motivating and evidence-based approach that works on attention, turn taking, receptive and expressive language, social skills, problem solving and much more. Triple Menace Studios
Located in Marrickville, Triple Menace Studios is an elite performing arts studio in the Inner West, providing top-quality training in a nurturing environment. In Term 2, there will be dance and performing arts classes from Mondays through to Saturdays. The cost is $150 plus GST per term. You can book a free trial lesson here.

 
PCYC Marrickville
The PCYC Marrickville forms part of Australia’s pre-eminent youth organisation working with police and community to empower young people to reach their potential. PCYC Marrickville has a diverse, affordable program, with activities running Monday to Friday.
On Monday afternoons, there is Homework Club, a study group for boys and girls aged 7 years and over which is free of charge. On Tuesdays afternoons, kids aged 6–14 years can learn to play badminton ($10 per class). On Wednesday afternoons, kids aged 12–17 years can learn volleyball ($10 per class). Scrimmage, casual self-organised basketball games, also takes place on Wednesday afternoons ($3–$5 per session). On Thursday mornings, Mini Movers, a class for children aged 18 months–5 years which incorporates learn-to-move principles such as running, hand-eye coordination and jumping, takes place ($12 per class). On Thursday afternoons there is futsal, comprising of various different warm-ups, drills and games with soccer for kids aged 6 and up ($10 per class), as well as netball ($10 per class), aimed at girls aged 7–14 years, and fitness boxing for 10–17 years ($11 per class). And on Friday afternoons basketball classes, for kids aged 6–17 years, are on ($10 per class). For all classes except boxing and basketball, you may enrol via the website or at reception. For boxing and basketball, please enrol at reception.
