Meet Rebecca Morgan, Lead Broker, My Mortgage Concierge

Getting to Know: Rebecca Morgan, My Mortgage Concierge

It’s been nearly a decade since we last caught up with Inner West local Rebecca Morgan — back then, she was helping steer the family business at Sattout Accounting Services. Fast-forward to today, and Rebecca is leading the charge at My Mortgage Concierge, a boutique mortgage broking firm that’s all heart, strategy and service. From raising two boys to guiding hundreds of families through the home-buying maze, Rebecca’s journey has been anything but ordinary. We sat down with her to talk property, purpose and why smart lending starts with truly listening.

🌟  You’ve been working in the community for two decades and featured in the Inner West Mums almost 9 years ago when you were part of your family’s accounting firm, Sattout Accounting Services. No doubt a lot has happened since then, give us a snapshot of what life has been like for you since we last spoke.

It’s been full.

Since we last spoke, I’ve raised two boys, built a business, supported hundreds of families buying homes, and somehow kept my sense of humour intact. On the business side, I’ve shifted from supporting our accounting clients with finance to leading a standalone mortgage broking business, My Mortgage Concierge. We’ve grown beyond our original client base, now helping their kids, cousins and colleagues take that next step with confidence.

We’re still family-run, still local, and still very much about relationships, not transactions.

🌟 You’re now the lead broker at My Mortgage Concierge, tell us a bit about your journey from Sattouts Accounting Services to My Mortgage Concierge?

It started as a way to support Dad. He was running both the accounting and finance sides of the business — until his second heart attack. That was the moment I knew I had to step in and lead the finance arm.

When I first took over, we were primarily helping our accounting clients with their property and finance needs. Over time, word spread. Our client base grew, and today, we’re proudly supporting the friends, families and colleagues of those original clients.

I completed a two-year mentoring program, built the broking systems from scratch, and rebranded as My Mortgage Concierge when it became clear that we were doing far more than “just loans”.

We walk with clients through their entire property journey. From the “Can we even do this?” conversations to the “We got the keys!” celebration, and all the messy, complicated questions in between.

🌟 What services does My Mortgage Concierge offer?

We offer tailored, full-service mortgage advice for clients at all stages — first home buyers, upgraders, downsizers, self-employed business owners and investors.

But the heart of our work? Education and strategy.

We take the time to understand your life, your goals and your comfort zone. Then we run multiple scenarios to help you make informed decisions that align with your financial reality… not just your pre-approval.

We work with a wide range of structures too — trusts, companies, SMSFs — and are deeply experienced with complex borrowing needs.

We don’t do cookie-cutter broking. It’s bespoke, thoughtful guidance. Think of us as your home loan interpreter, budget coach and property partner all rolled into one.

🌟 For families not familiar with mortgage broking, what does this service entail?

Mortgage brokers are your go-between with the banks (and other lenders) — but we’re also your guide through one of life’s biggest decisions.

We assess your situation, compare hundreds of loan options, handle the paperwork, negotiate on your behalf and coordinate with your solicitor and agent until settlement. But most importantly, we ask better questions.

Things like:

  • What happens if you go on parental leave?
  • Is this level of debt sustainable?
  • Are you over-committing based on today’s interest rates?

We think beyond the approval. We help you make decisions that hold up under pressure.

🌟 What are the benefits of working with a mortgage broker vs organising a loan on your own?

You don’t know what you don’t know.

Banks only show their products. Brokers give you access to a wide market, and more importantly, context. We don’t just find a loan — we find the right loan, for the way you actually live. That means asking: what’s your income likely to look like in two years? Are you planning to renovate? What are your fixed costs? Are you expecting to drop to one income?

We tailor recommendations to your actual goals, not just what the bank says you can borrow.

🌟 What’s one thing you wish people knew about mortgage broking that could make a difference in their property purchasing journey?

That we’re not here to sell you a loan.

We’re here to stop you from making a bad decision. The most valuable thing I give clients isn’t an approval, it’s clarity. Whether it’s explaining how strata works, breaking down tax implications, or showing you what an investment property might look like under multiple scenarios, my job is to empower you to make a smart, confident move.

And sometimes? That means saying, “Not yet.”

🌟 How does your service differ from other mortgage broking firms?

We go deeper.

I’ve worked in accounting, HR, property, and finance. I’ve owned, renovated, and sold properties. I’ve built a business while raising two kids. I know what it feels like to juggle it all.

My clients aren’t just a spreadsheet. They’re parents, business owners, carers, newly divorced, newly pregnant, freshly migrated… and usually overwhelmed.

We walk with them. We troubleshoot. We demystify. We coordinate with other professionals. We treat every application like it matters — because it does.

🌟 You’ve always been active in the community, tell us a bit about the work you do supporting charities and not-for-profits? What does this work mean for you?

Giving back is part of how I was raised. It’s baked into how we do business.

Each week, our team gathers in our boardroom to pack food hampers for Vinnies. Sometimes friends or family join in, and it becomes a bit of a community ritual. We laugh, we pack, we chat about life…and then I personally drive the donations to the Vinnies depot.

It’s a simple act, but it keeps us connected to something bigger than ourselves.

We also help on the Vinnies food van, serving hot breakfasts to people doing it tough across Sydney. It’s humbling. And grounding. Those early mornings remind me why we do what we do.

As a team, we also donate a fixed portion of our commission from every loan to charity. Quiet giving, but consistent. We support local community groups, and step in wherever we can to back causes close to our clients’ hearts.

This isn’t a box we tick. It’s part of who we are.

🌟 What’s one piece of advice you’d give to the inner west couples and families who are trying to find their dream property, or needing to upsize to accommodate different needs?

Don’t let Fear-Of-Missing-Out make your financial decisions.

I see too many families chasing that ‘dream home’ and ending up with a mortgage that feels like a punishment.

Start where you can. Understand your numbers. Have a plan B. Buy smart — not big. Your dream property isn’t just about postcode and bedrooms. It’s about whether it lets you breathe.

And find an adviser who listens more than they talk.
