Here’s a selection of great local venues that host creative classes for adults held on weekdays, evenings and some on weekend days too. Some of the classes are one-off activities or workshops, while others run in short blocks or are term based.
Art Est. Art School
Based in Leichhardt, Art Est. offers drawing, painting and ceramics classes for adults on weekdays, evenings and Saturday mornings. The classes are held in blocks and there are single-day weekend workshops as well. Class sizes are small, with just 10 to 12 students (8 for wheel throwing pottery). Bobbin & Ink

Gallery NTK
Situated in Croydon, Gallery NTK runs regular Sip ’n’ Sketch evenings. Bring your own bottle of wine and create your own masterpiece guided by a talented professional. Hart Start Studio
Hart Start Studio offers weekly general interest painting classes for beginners and up in a studio beneath a beautiful stone church in Balmain East. Lessons are payable in lots of five, with free introductory lessons available. For more information, check the website or Facebook page.
Helen Ashley Designs at The Art Room
Artist, illustrator and designer Helen Ashley runs eight-week courses during the day and evening at the multipurpose creative space The Art Room in St Peters. Julie Peadon Art
Artist Julie Peadon offers evening classes focusing on elements of art such as line, shape, colour, texture, composition and technique. Maker Space
Based in Marrickville, Maker Space and Co. offers a wide range of evening creative classes covering ceramics, metalwork, woodwork, industrial design and more. Classes are open for first timers through to pros. Check the website and Facebook page for details of upcoming classes.
The Little Plaster Shop
The Little Plaster Shop in Concord holds regular plaster painting evenings for adults. Book your spot then pay for the various plasters you choose ranging in price from $5 to $20. Paper Rock Scissors Art Studio
The delightful Inner West Mum Prue Burnstein runs regular evening art classes with cheese and BYO wine at her Paper Rock Scissors Art Studio on Darling Street, Rozelle. The classes, with approximately ten participants, tackle a range of subjects and media from jellyfish to David Bowie! Sew Make Create
A diverse range of small classes is held at the Sew Make Create studio in Chippendale. Themes include sewing, quilting, knitting and crochet, screen printing, dressmaking, ceramics, resin jewellery and more. Some of the classes are held on a one-off basis, others are part of a series.
