During lockdown the Inner West Mums team has been lucky enough to try out the Go! Kidz range of meals, and they have been an absolute lifesaver.
After a full day of home schooling, trying to run my own business/work from home and generally manage the wellbeing of the kids, the idea of cooking dinner has been last on the priority list in this household.
Enter the Go! Kidz range. Go! Kidz offers a huge range of nourishing meals that kids love, everything from lasagne to butter chicken, with plenty of vegetarian options too (and a vegan range in the works). All of their meals are prepared using 100 per cent Australian ingredients, supporting local farmers and growers. They are 100 per cent natural with no added preservatives. Each meal contains up to four serves of vegetables and as my girls can attest, they taste amazing!
The meals are delivered frozen using the insulation “Woolcool”. This is manufactured in Australia and New Zealand as an alternative to polystyrene. It’s compostable and sustainable, which is another big tick. Go! Kidz will also unpack and take the packaging with them to be recycled for future customers. Given we’re currently in lockdown, Go! Kidz is offering contactless delivery. The driver will give you a call 10 minutes prior to arrival and leave the delivery in a pre-agreed spot, they’ll then notify you once they’ve left.
The meals are re-heated in the oven or microwave, taking between 5 and 30 minutes, with clear instructions on the packaging.
The taste test
We have been lucky enough to try out a number of the meals in the range and I can honestly say there hasn’t been one we wouldn’t have again. However, there have been some firm favourites. The mini-burgers with the accompanying high-fibre bread rolls disappeared off the plates before I could ask how they tasted! The panko crumbed chicken nuggets (which are breaded with six different seeds, chia, pumpkin, hemp, sunflower, sesame and poppy) have been a regular request for dinner since the first time I made them.
But the overall winner was the veggie-loaded chilli con carne. The team at Go! Kidz suggested using it to make a nacho dish with corn chips, a little sour cream and guacamole (see ours above), and sure enough it was scooped up and polished off in minutes. I have to say I was a little disappointed as I was hoping to try a mouthful, but I was way too slow!
Here’s the verdict from the kids:
M, aged 10
“The burgers and the nachos were really yummy and they filled me up nicely”
C, aged 5
“I love the nachos and nuggets”
How does it work?
Go! Kidz has introduced a range of meal packs, grouped into the bundles New Flavours, Lunch time, Vegetarian and Favourites. The packs include a variety of meals and offer excellent value for money. For example, the Favourites pack includes 10 meals for $60. Plus, if you make an order of more than $55 then delivery is free within metro Sydney. Individual meals can be purchased, ranging in price from $4.95 a serve to $12.95 for 500g of chicken nuggets. There are desserts too, a low-sugar chocolate brownie and apple crumble for $3.95.
Go! Kidz really has made dinner time way less stressful. The kids have actually been going to the freezer to choose their own meal, and as most things are ready in less than 15 minutes it has meant there’s no complaining about being hungry while waiting for dinner to be prepared. It’s also great to know that whatever they choose is nutritionally balanced and tastes terrific!
