Our guide to Term 3, 2019 is packed with engaging activities for kids in and around Sydney’s Inner West! There is something here for every age and interest from early childhood development programs to dedicated art, music, language, sports and fitness classes and more. Many of these are registered Active or Creative Kids providers, so don’t forget to make use of those vouchers!

 

Acropals

Located in Marrickville, AcroPals offers kids and family acrobatics classes. Learn acrobatics and air track tumbling in a friendly, non-competitive environment. In Term 3, classes will be held on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. AcroPals uses state-of-the-art equipment and has a massive assortment of air tracks to keep your kids safe while teaching them everything from a forward roll to a full twist back. Parents are always welcome to watch and even participate in the family classes. The cost is $18 per class with sibling, family and multi-class discounts. Free trials are available. Allegro Children’s Music

Based in Burwood, Allegro Children’s Music offers Do-Re-Mi music classes for children aged 1–5 years and piano lessons for kids aged 5 years and up. The Do-Re-Mi classes, which are Kodaly-based early childhood development music classes for tots, toddlers and preschoolers together with their parents or carers, take place on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. These cost $150 per term (a trial is $20). Private piano lessons for school-aged children are taught from Monday to Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings, from beginners to advanced levels. Aptitude Education

Based in Five Dock, Aptitude Education is a tutoring centre offering programs for all ability levels in Maths and English as well as school readiness programs for preschoolers. Through progressive and focused small group and one-to-one tutoring, Aptitude Education will hone your child’s literacy and numeracy skills in an empathetic, productive learning environment. Artspark Studio

ArtSpark Studio, a sun-filled studio in Rozelle, is running art playgroups for toddlers (18 months–4 years), art and eco garden classes for preschoolers (3–5 year olds) and primary school students, and sewing classes for ages 8 years and up at various times from Monday to Thursday. Term classes cost from $200. ArtSpark also has an eco-friendly garden and mini farm with chickens and guinea pigs – the perfect place for young creative minds to relax. Beyond Distinction

Beyond Distinction is an afterschool academy offering a range of sports, arts and music classes for primary school-aged children in the Concord/Cabarita areas. The diverse program gives children the chance to learn new skills, discover their talents and have fun after school. Activities include professionally coached piano, guitar, tennis, golf, swimming, art and Mandarin Chinese. The program also provides nutritious afternoon tea, dedicated homework time and free school pick-up for local Concord/Cabarita areas. (Self drop-offs are welcome too.) Big Steps Little Feet

Big Steps Little Feet provides creative ballet and dance classes for children from 2–12 years in Balmain and Summer Hill. Every class is brimming with magic, beauty, inspiration and encouragement. Along the way, each dancer will develop new skills, technical training and creative expression through expert guidance and individual attention. Bluebell Music

Bluebell Music offers fun, engaging and educational music classes for children aged between 3 months and 5 years together with their carer. During each class experienced and energetic teachers create a caring environment in which children can begin their musical journey. Children, along with their parents or carer, will discover the key concepts of music through listening, singing, moving and improvisation.. Classes are held in Balmain on Monday and in Five Dock on Tuesday and Thursday. Carlile Swimming Five Dock

Carlile Swimming is a world-renowned swim school with more than 60 years’ experience in teaching children to swim well. Teach your child essential swimming and water safety skills with the Learn to Swim specialists in a fun, safe and caring environment. Cheeky Tunes Song and Dance Party

Looking for a fun-filled morning of song and dance for you child? Cheeky Tunes is a multi-sensory interactive show created through the Montessori philosophy of child-led learning. Featuring original music by Eleanor Clapham, toddlers and preschoolers sing, dance, pop bubbles, dress-up, play instruments and more! Held at Leichhardt Bowling Club, the Cheeky Tunes Song and Dance Party runs every Friday morning with two sessions: toddlers at 9.40 am and preschoolers at 10.30 am. The first time is free. After that you can purchase a pack: single pass $17; four-pack pass $60; ten-pack pass $120. You can book online.

 

Core Studios Sydney

Located in Burwood, Core Studios Sydney provides music tuition for all levels from the age of 4 years. Tuition includes piano, guitar and vocal lessons. Creative Little Fingers

Based in Drummoyne, Creative Little Fingers offers a creative environment allowing children to discover art. It is running art classes for kids aged 5–12 years on Monday–Thursday afternoons from 3.30–5 pm. The cost is $30 per class. Creative Little Fingers is registered for the Creative Kids rebate. Drama Scene

Drama Scene has been running drama classes in the Inner West since 2003. Term 3 spots are available in three afternoon groups: Years K–3, Mondays 3.30 pm–4.30 pm at Forest Lodge Public School; Years 4–6, Mondays at 3.30 pm–4.30 pm at Forest Lodge Public School; Years 3–6, Wednesdays, from 4.30 pm–5.30 pm at Taverners Hill Infants School (Petersham). East Village Art House

East Village Art House provides creative and fun art experiences – including after-school art classes, holiday workshops and a preschool art play class – in a relaxed, nurturing environment. The classes aim to introduce artistic skills and techniques and encourage curiosity, whilst promoting individuality. The preschool classes run on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and cost $200 for the term, or $25 for drop-ins. The primary school classes run from 3.45–5.30 pm Tuesday–Thursday and cost $350 for the term. Located in East Balmain, East Village Art House is situated near Nicholson Street Public School. Esprit Martial Arts

Esprit Martial Arts, based in Marrickville, offers martial arts classes for girls and boys aged 5–15 years. The classes are small and focus on fitness and self-defence while building confidence and self-esteem. For timetable information, pricing or to book, please visit the website.

 

Flying Yogis

Flying Yogis have just opened in Annandale and are launching their full timetable with yoga, acro, tumbling and mindfulness programs in Term 3.  There are classes for children aged 3–18 years and adults too. The term commences on Tuesday 23 July. Click here for further details and bookings.

 

Gallery NTK Art School

Gallery NTK, in Croydon, provides creative fun and tuition in all areas of art for kids from preschool to Year 12. The classes are given by fully qualified art teachers and professional artists and run Monday through Friday between 3.30 and 5.30 pm and Saturdays from 9 am. The classes focus on skills and techniques and are tailored to the individual child’s interests. Gallery NTK offers a beautiful gallery setting to enhance the creative skills of every child. GeckoSports

GeckoSports Inner West runs multi-sport fitness classes for kids in the Inner West. The GeckoACTIVE program entails fun, action-packed weekly sessions, with sport-specific skills and fitness activities, and is suitable for children aged 5–13 years. It’s a non-competitive environment that caters to all fitness levels. No week is the same – there is a different sports program each week focused on improving gross motor skills and confidence. The sports that are covered include mini Olympics, soccer, basketball, AFL, boxing, netball, athletics, rugby league and cricket. The sports science-designed program runs for 45 minutes and promotes a healthy lifestyle where kids can try their hand at a variety of sports. GeckoSports is an approved Active Kids provider. Gymbaroo

The GymbaROO program is designed to guide and educate parents in providing their children with sensory stimulation and motor development activities within an engaging, supportive environment.

Gymbaroo Glebe

This fun, educational early childhood program for babies, toddlers and preschoolers is held at the Glebe PCYC. Classes run Monday to Fridays. You can enrol via the website.

Gymbaroo Redfern

Gymbaroo Redfern is based at the Redfern PCYC. Classes are held on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Enrol via the website.

Concord Gymbaroo

Concord Gymbaroo holds early childhood classes with music, dance, parachute time and a specially designed gym. Based at the Concord RSL and Community Centre, classes run on Thursdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays for infants aged 6 weeks right through to children of 5 years. To book, visit the website.

Marrickville Gymbaroo

Marrickville Gymbaroo also offers classes for babies from 6 weeks to 5 years. These are held at the PCYC Marrickville on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. See the website for more details and to book.

 

GymKidz

GymKidz is a toddler, kinder and recreational gymnastics centre in Newtown. The Gymkidz program is built around basic movement milestones with its foundations in gymnastics. The classes are age appropriate where children progress at their own rate, tackling new challenges and skills each week over a term. Classes are offered for boys and girls aged 9 months to 12 years from Monday through to Saturday. The cost is from $18 per class. GymKidz is an Active Kids provider. The Gymnastics Revolution

Based in Summer Hill, the Gymnastics Revolution (TGR) is a family owned and operated gymnastics facility, offering gymnastics classes, school holiday programs and birthday parties, in a fully equipped venue. The Gymnastics Revolution runs classes from Monday through to Saturday for toddlers through to adults. Prices vary from $18–$26 per class. Bookings are term based. Inkling Writing Studio

In Term 3, the Inkling Writing Studio will be running creative writing classes at Paper Rock Scissors Art Studio in Rozelle on Monday afternoons from 3.30–5.30 pm and Saturday afternoons from 1.30–3.30 pm. Suitable for children in Years 3–6, these weekly classes give children time and attention to nurture creativity and become confident writers. Inner West School of Dance

The Inner West School of Dance is a relaxed, no-fuss dance school! It runs jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop and yoga classes, with studios in Haberfield, Leichhardt and Marrickville. Classes are held Monday to Saturday mornings and afternoons. The classes are fun and friendly, with none of the pressures of exams, competitions or large performances. Julie Peadon Art

In Term 3, Julie Peadon Art will be running art classes for students in Years K–6 at Studio 71 in Drummoyne. The classes will focus on Aboriginal Art, its history, how artists produced their artworks and how contemporary artists produce their works today. The cost is $40 per class. Kidz Artworx

Burwood-based art school Kidz Artworx runs creative and engaging art classes for kids aged 4–12 years, with a range of activities including drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, design and sculpture. The art classes are designed for kids to encourage their creative thinking, visual language and provide them with skills in various areas. The classes are taught by a qualified art teacher with 25+ years of experience. In Term 3, classes will run each day after school, Thursday mornings and afternoon and on Saturdays. The cost is $310 for eight 1.5-hour lessons. An earlybird discount is available until 21 July ($279). Li’l Crafters

Li’l Crafters is a fun, creative process-based art, craft and messy sensory play class based in Marrickville. This term it is running classes on Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 10–11 am. The cost is $160 for an eight-week term, $60 for a three-session pass, $25 for a casual class. Sibling/bring-a-friend discounts are available. Bookings can be made online.

 

Make Believe Kids Theatre Club

Make Believe Kids Theatre Club, in Balmain/Rozelle, offers combined singing, dance and drama activities. Make Believe’s key focus is to help develop imagination, creativity and social skills. Classes are for kids aged 3–14 years, and no previous experience is necessary. The classes run on Mondays and Saturdays. The cost is $15 per hour. Paper Rock Scissors Art Studio

This term Paper Rock Scissors Art Studio in Rozelle is holding art classes for K–2 and Years 3–6 from Monday to Friday from 3.30–5.30 pm. Students produce beautiful artworks that develop their art techniques or build on existing ones while having plenty of fun. PCYC Glebe/Leichhardt

Join the Aussie Hoops program for kids aged 5–10 years at PCYC Glebe/Leichhardt on Mondays or Friday at 4 pm and learn to play basketball in a friendly atmosphere with great coaches. PCYC Marrickville

PCYC Marrickville has a diverse, affordable program, with activities running Monday to Friday afternoons. Activities include boxing for fitness, basketball, badminton, volleyball, soccer and netball. Enrol via the website or at reception. For boxing and basketball, please enrol at reception.

 

The Pinnacle Studio

The Pinnacle Studio is a dedicated space for Pilates, yoga and other small group exercise classes which run from Monday to Saturday. In Term 3, kids’ yoga classes will be held on Mondays, with a preschool class at 10.30 am and a primary school age class at 4 pm. Yoga instructor Aisling will take the kids through basic yoga moves, balance, stretching, creativity and strength. There is lots of learn through play, music and dance in a fun-filled class. READ + CREATE Classes

READ + CREATE classes are a playful but purposeful celebration of books, arts and crafts. These creative learning experiences are led by a passionate practising primary teacher and offer a creative approach to school readiness. In Term 3, they will be exploring books around the theme of friendship. The one-hour classes will be held in Drummoyne on Mondays 9.30–10.30 or 11–12. The cost is $12 per class. Resilience in Kids

Resilience in Kids provides resilience workshops for everyday children aged 5–12 years experiencing everyday challenges. In Term 3, Resilience in Kids will be running workshops at Wilkins Public School on Mondays (K–Year 3) and Wednesdays from 3.30–4.30 pm (Years 3–6); Marrickville Public School on Wednesdays (K–Year 3) and Thursdays (Years 3–6) from 3.30–4.30 pm and at Dulwich Hill Public School on Thursdays (K–Year 6) from 3.45–4.45 pm. The fun, play-based workshops build children’s resilience through drama, art, craft, storytelling and games. In Term 3 the workshops will focus on ‘Making Friends with Fear’ and taking children on a ‘Hero’s Journey’. They’ll be exploring mistakes, failure, emotions, the neuroscience of fear and lots more, all in a fun and playful way. The programs are run by deeply experienced resilience coaches. The cost is $292.50 for nine, one-hour workshops and includes a free parent briefing, access to a resilience coach to discuss how your child is tracking and resources to support what is being taught. SeedTree Education (Coding and Maths)

Located in Strathfield, SeedTree teaches coding and secondary Maths. During Term 3 a Coding program will be offered on Saturdays 10 am–11.30 am. SeedTree is a registered Creative Kids provider. Speech and Language Sydney

Speech and Language Sydney is a mobile speech pathology service with a strong focus on supporting children in their social communication skills. In Term 3 it is running its popular after-school Lego Based Therapy groups. The LEGO Based Therapy approach is a fun, motivating and evidence-based approach that works on attention, turn taking, receptive and expressive language, social skills, problem solving and much more. Sydney Speaking School

Sydney Speaking School seeks to bring out the inner speaker in every child using practical and welcoming public speaking and debating classes run by experienced coaches. Based in Burwood, Sydney Speaking School holds classes for a range of ages from Monday through Saturday. The cost is $55 per two-hour weekly class. To book, see the website.

 

Triple Menace Studios
