4 Key Investment Pieces Every Wardrobe Needs

By Kerry Athanassiou from Style Culture
I am frequently asked by clients and friends “what investment pieces should I have in my wardrobe”?
This one is easy and can be oh relatively affordable given you are investing in your wardrobe.
Start with investing in a blazer – cropped, straight, boyfriend, leather or double breasted, it’s totally up to you but EVERYONE needs at least one blazer hanging nicely in their wardrobe, then comes a well fitted pair of denim jeans, followed by that classic LBD any style or length depending on your social calendar, and last but certainly not least a pair of nude chic pumps. The rest will depend on how you accessories it all. Will you choose a large statement bag or opt for a cross body bag and make your necklace and rings your standout look? Whatever it is, make it yours by adding little personal touches along the way.
Below I have listed the four key pieces to help get your started. Think of these items as a building block when creating a capsule or functional wardrobe. Keep in mind by investment pieces I mean garment quality, allowing for longevity in years to come.

  1. The Blazer- Personally I would start with a casual style boyfriend blazer and by casual I mean you know, relaxed style with a little stretch in the fabric for easy movement when out and about with the little people in our life. A one or no button blazer will up the stakes on your everyday dress code each and every time. Stylist Note: Note this does not include suits worn during work hours.

2. Denim Jeans, my most requested item from clients year after year. We love to hate them. Love becaiuse we can’t live without them- hate simply because finding the right pair that fits all over and stays in shape can sometimes be mission impossible for many. A well-fitting pair of jeans (Boyfriend, Skinny, Straight, Waxed or Bootleg) options are endless these days for all heights, shapes and sizes will be the most utilised item in  your wardrobe, it’s the workhorse that never complains wear after wear.

3. The LBD traditionally known as the “Little Black Dress” but these days worn in so many variations like a grey jersey wrap dress or your favourite floral print and even a bodycon dress, it’s basically that dress you through on and feel OH WOW every time!

4. Nude Pumps or flats- either way it’s a win win situation. This shoe will forever be in fashion (a big call on my end I know) and will more than likely need to be replaced once or twice before its time expires on the fashion scene.
