Held every first and third Sunday of the month, the Flour Mill market is proudly plastic-free and offers a genuine alternative to supermarket shopping at affordable prices. The market stocks everything from flowers to free-range meats, cheeses to sustainable seafood, as well as artisan jewelry, ceramics and crafts. There’s a diverse selection of hot-food options and of course they have the prerequisite bacon and egg roll covered too! There is a great park and play equipment for the little ones, and four-legged friends are welcome so you can all enjoy the live music and atmosphere together. Tip: discounts if you take your own keep-cup!

The kids will love the pony rides, babychinos and jumping castle. Tip: After the markets, wander next door to Reverse Garbage – a warehouse which is jam-packed with DIY and creative treasures!

One of our favourite family-friendly Inner West markets is Orange Grove Market, held in the grounds of Orange Grove School, in Lilyfield. Plenty of gourmet hot food, plants and flowers, farm fresh produce and best of all there are pony rides and a playground for the kids. The jumping castle will be back up and running soon too. Top tip: The excellent Flour & Stone lamingtons go fast, so best to get in early!

Held each Saturday and Sunday, this thriving marketplace in the buzzy Tramsheds precinct hosts many and varied local vendors including fresh produce, winemakers, cheesemakers, artisans and craft makers, bakers, food pop-ups and many more. Plus, being indoors this one of the few weather-friendly markets so it’s perfect for a visit all year round. Located just steps away is Harold Park as well as Jubilee Park, the kids can squeeze in a play in the park and furry friends are welcome too.

The weekly Carriageworks Farmers Market is a Sydney institution with the fresh produce from NSW farmers, pastries and artisan-made food! As the market is undercover it’s a great activity even on those rainy days. You’ll find organic produce, artisan breads, boutique wines, single-origin coffee, herbal teas, meat, eggs, freshly harvested honey and beautiful flowers. Tip: Carriageworks often run exhibitions and installations, which are always worth a peek.

The Kirribilli Markets were first held on January 21 1976 in the back yard of the newly opened Kirribilli Neighbourhood Centre. Quickly growing in size and popularity, the market spread into the adjacent yard of the then Kirribilli Public School, but ultimately found its home on the old bowling green and Burton Street tunnel. Today, the Kirribilli Markets is one of Sydney’s oldest and most popular markets featuring over 220 stalls selling, new and recycled fashion and accessories, emerging local fashion designers, home and gift wares, arts and craft, jewellery, plants, gourmet foods and a whole lot more.

When: General & Fashion – last Saturday of the month. Art, fashion & design – first and second Sunday of the month.
