Festival of Colours (Holi) 2026

🌈 Festival of Colours 2026: The Joyful, Colour-Soaked Day Out Inner West Families Love

If your idea of a great family day out includes loud music, bright colours, dancing kids and zero pressure to keep anyone clean, the Festival of Colours (Holi) 2026 is absolutely one to circle in the calendar.

Returning to Tumbalong Park, this iconic celebration brings one of India’s most joyful festivals to Sydney with two huge, family-friendly days of colour throwing, live performances, food stalls and cultural fun. It’s vibrant, welcoming and wonderfully chaotic in the best possible way.

What’s Holi, exactly?

Holi is a Hindu festival celebrating the triumph of good over evil and the shift from winter to spring. Traditionally, it’s marked by music, dancing, shared food and the throwing of coloured powders — a symbol of renewal, joy and togetherness.

In Sydney, the Festival of Colours keeps that spirit alive while inviting everyone to join in, no matter your background.

What to expect on the day

This is not a “stand and watch” event — it’s very much a jump in and join the fun situation. Families can expect:

  • Big, crowd-wide colour throw moments (the kids’ highlight)

  • Live music and DJs keeping the energy high

  • Dance performances blending traditional and modern styles

  • Cultural showcases and interactive experiences

  • A relaxed, festival vibe where kids can roam and parents can actually enjoy themselves

Food that’s part of the fun

There’s no surviving this festival without refuelling. Expect a mouth-watering line-up of Indian street food and classic favourites – think crispy samosas, freshly made dosas, steaming cups of delicious chai, plus traditional fudges, rice puddings and more. It’s a great way to introduce kids to new flavours and foods.

Is it good with kids?

Very. This is an all-ages, all-welcome event, with wide open space, pram-friendly paths and a crowd that’s clearly there to celebrate together. You’ll see toddlers, tweens, grandparents — and everyone leaving in a rainbow of colour.

Inner West mum tip: wear old clothes (white if you’re brave), bring wipes, and fully lean into the mess. Resistance is futile.
