The all-new, inclusive King George Park Playground, Rozelle

On Saturday 7 September, Inner West Council unveiled an exciting all-new, inclusive playground at King George Park, Rozelle.

The King George Park Playground was developed in conjunction with locals, play experts and the Touched by Olivia Foundation, which is responsible for inclusive places and programs, including the much-loved Livvi’s Place and Livvi’s Cafe in Five Dock. Inclusive playgrounds are vital spaces that cater to a range of ages and abilities. King George Park Playground is the first of five flagship inclusive playgrounds that Inner West Council will provide in the area.

A trip to the fully fenced King George Park Playground offers hours of fun, with a range of inclusive play equipment that will have your child digging, splashing, spinning, bouncing, balancing, climbing, sliding and zipping about the place. A helpful legend at the entrance to the playground shows the many elements and amenities that are offered.

Kids will love the variety of play types offered within King George Park Playground, including sand and water play, traditional play elements such as swings and slides, interactive visual and sound features and nature play.

The water play area is sure to be a welcome spot for little ones to cool down during the warmer months.

Older children will enjoy the flying fox, steeper slides set into the hill and the climbing net.

The play area is shaded by several large sailcloths and numerous mature trees. Within the playground, there are bubblers, barbecues, picnic areas and a brand-new accessible toilet block with changing tables.

The playground is situated on the land of the Wangal people. Indigenous cultural heritage is reflected in the entry artwork of the Baludarri or Leatherjacket motif by Mumbulla Creative. Further indigenous artwork has been incorporated throughout the play areas highlighting the important cultural stories of the park’s proximity to the water and connection to sea.

King George Park Playground is best accessed by car, and a brand-new parking lot adjacent to the playground provides numerous long-stay spots. The park can also be reached by the 502, 503 or 504 bus along Victoria Road or the 440 or 445 along Balmain Road/Darling Street.

The nearest coffee is found a short drive away on Darling Street, Rozelle.
